Not many would either consider an anchor to be a person earning the most in a year. But Oprah Winfrey is the answer to these questions. Oprah ranked the first in the list of world’s most influential persons according to the survey by Forbes magazine. The anchor of Oprah Winfrey show, she earns Rs1800 crore a year. Mind-boggling indeed. She is now 56. Her overall wealth amounts to a whopping figure of Rs10,800 crores. Born amidst poverty and hunger in Mississippi she had to struggle very hard for survival. Her mother was a servant. She had to face the dark realities of life and underwent trauma at a young age itself. But she was far ahead in studies when compared with other students. She left home when she was a child. Acceptance for her was out of cards even in the streets of America. Her life underwent a drastic change when she got a job in a local radio. She was successful as a radio jockey and soon set her foot in the television industry. Then there was no looking back for her. Her first programme itself got wide acceptance. This was a talk show named A.M Chicago. The name of this programme was changed to the famous “Oprah Winfrey Show” and its overwhelming success transported Winfrey to the heights of glory. Apart from America, her show is telecasted in 117 countries. She has the distinction of being the person who contributes maximum for philanthropic activities as well.
