Women’s Technology Park ,proposed by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and environment (KSCSTE) gets a nod from the Central Department of Science and Technology. The technology park aims to promote technology based entrepreneurship among women.
State science and technology department principal secretary and council executive vice-chairman V N Rajasekharan Pillai stated that the work of the park will be kickstarted by April this year.The proposed park will be on the lines of the Chennai Bio-tech Park and is aimed at women empowerment and improving their livelihood , said K R Lekha, scientist and head of the women science division of KSCSTE .
The Technology Park aims to promote women-friendly technologies and energy saving devices like solar cookers and smokeless chulahs.Pillai said the ministry of non-conventional energy sources would support women entrepreneurs in energy sector while value addition of traditional agriculture products through food processing, preservation and packing, floriculture and vermiculture-based women entrepreneurship will also form part of the project. The Women Technology Park is proposed at Puthenthopu at an initial project cost of Rs 1.5 crore .
