Anjali Menon , the Indian scrip writer cum film Director has won the National Film Award for the best screen play ( Dialogues) for the Malayalam Film “Ustad Hotel” .The renowned malayalee director, received award from President Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a function of National Film award ceremony , conducted on 3rd May, (Friday) at New Delhi. Mumbai based writer, started her film debut with Manjadikuru (Lucky Red Seeds), starring Prithviraj, for which she got the FIPRESCI award for the Best Malayalam film, at 2008 International Film Festival of Kerala. In 2009, the film swept the awards at South Asian International Film Festival at New York, winning five Grand Jury Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematographer & Best Emerging Talent. Talking to the media , she said ,”it was bit ironical that I got it for dialogues” and there is a reason for surprise .Anjali ,who grew up in Dubai ,learnt to write Malayalm only in 2005. Initially drafts were written in English and then friend of hers did the translation. Thereafter, she began working on the Malayalam version and worked on the dialogues continuously . She also says that , “As I don’t know any big Malayalam words , I used simple language and that touched people’s hearts”. Perhaps that was why I won. At present, Anjali is working on another script , which she will direct. It will be produced by Rasheed.
