Mayukha ,the team member of Kerala girls basket ball team ,renowned for brilliant performance in the national youth championship at Kolkata a few days ago, has reached half way to enter the country’s national team .
The 16 year , Kozhikode girl was the top scorer in the quarter final and final of the national youth championship at Calcutta . Talking to the media , she said , “It felt nice to contribute to my team success. And it was great being part of a very good side” . The teenage star who weighed her performance individually said that her best performance came in the knock-out stage. “I thought I played pretty well in the quarterfinal, semi final and final,” she says. “And I could do well in the preliminary league stage too.”
Mayukha, a Class X student at Providence GHSS, Kozhikode, took to basketball on her mother’s advice. “She was into co-curricular activities in her schooldays; I am glad that I listened to her and joined the basketball camp at my school,” she said. “We have good facilities at the school and are encouraged to play by the school management and teachers.” She feels basketball in Kozhikode is getting better these days. “There are good teams in a few other schools and the Silver Hills tournament is a good exposure for us,” she said.
Mayukha’s coach, Sreejith Subramanyan, believes she could go a long way in basketball. “She is a very solid player,” he says. “She is remarkably good at rebounds and her defence is excellent.”
