Amidst the speculation whether the women’s bill would be passed in Parliament, the international women’s day was celecbrated here at VJT hall. The function was inaugurated by PK Sreemathy Teacher.

As part of the function awards constituted by Kerala Government were given to anganwadi worker, angnawadi helper and ICDS supervisor who contributed immensely to their respective sector.

The books “Women protection, women empowerment”  and Social Welfare Interventions in Kerala 2006-2009” were also released as part of the function.

Arunima’s Story a short fiction directed by Sanjeev Sivan that voices against the lavishness in marriages was screened.

The function was presided over by V. Sivankutty, the chief guest being C Jayanbabu, Mayor of trivandrum.

The welcome address was given by Dr Usha Titus while P P Gopi IAS gave the felicitation.

There was a discussion on the topic “The role of man in empowering women” presented by Dr P Leelakumari, faculty member SIRD, Kottarakara .

Various arts forms by the anganwadi workers  and magic show added mirth  to the function.
